PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP are investigating a complaint involving a firearm at a local shopping centre.
Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Ted Manchulenko says police were contacted by an employee from Cherry Lane Mall yesterday, Dec. 14, at around 5:15 p.m.
The store employee said she had received a call from an unknown person who said someone had produced a firearm in another section of the mall.
Manchulenko says the call was received on a business landline and no other details were provided.
Several officers went to the mall to check out the complaint, and after a thorough investigation were able to determine the area safe, with no threat to public safety, he says.
Police are continuing to investigate the nature and origin of the call, but Manchulenko says no threat is believed to exist to the public at this time.
