Holiday plans in disarray for Penticton air passengers as flights cancelled

PENTICTON – Today’s snowy winter weather is affecting holiday flight traffic in and out of Penticton Regional Airport.

Westjet spokesperson Lauren Stewart says today’s morning flight between Calgary and Penticton, as well as the return flight from Penticton to Calgary has been cancelled due to the heavy snow and poor visibility today, Dec. 19.

Stewart says a winter storm warning has been issued for Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Abbotsford, Victoria, Comox and Penticton, which may cause delays of cancellations throughout the day.

She says WestJet customers travelling to any of the above cities between Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 to check the status of their flights prior to departing for the airport.

To review flight options, customers should call: 1-888-937-8538.

Jazz Aviation spokesperson Debra Williams says customers flying the airline’s Penticton to Vancouver schedule should visit the following link on Air Canada’s website. Williams says customers can also check daily travel outlook information on its website.

According to the airline’s website, all Air Canada flights have been cancelled for today, except for the final flight of the day, which is scheduled to land in Penticton at 11 p.m. this evening.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
