MONTREAL – Organizers of Montreal’s marathon say they’re cancelling the 2021 edition of the event due to ongoing COVID-19 health restrictions.
The Marathon Beneva de Montreal event was scheduled to be held the weekend of Sept. 24 -26.
In a statement issued Tuesday, organizer Événements GPCQM says the current provincial restrictions related to large events and uncertainty about whether they will be lifted by early fall didn’t permit holding an event like the marathon.
Sebastien Arsenault, president of GPCQM, explained the decision by saying the event requires planning and human resources that can’t be organized at the last minute.
The next edition of the marathon is now expected to be held from Sept. 23 to 25, 2022.
The Montreal Marathon was also cancelled last year due to COVID-19.
