Christmas day fire burns home in Osoyoos
OSOYOOS – Quick action by neighbouring Osoyoos residents kept a blaze from engulfing an Osoyoos residence yesterday.
Osoyoos Fire Chief Ryan McCaskill says firefighters were called to a 39 Street residence around 3 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 25 to find the remains of a fire on the upper back deck of the structure.
The fire had partially burned the siding, railings and some furniture on the deck.
McCaskill says quick action from neighbours prevented further damage. The neighbours saw the fire, ran to the house and alerted the residents. They were able to get enough water on the blaze to slow its advance sufficiently until the firefighters arrival to extinguish it fully.
“The family is very lucky to have noticed the fire when they did, as they could have lost everything,” McCaskill says.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
