Iowa GOP congressman says QB’s protest ‘sympathetic to ISIS’

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Steve King says Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the national anthem is “activism that is sympathetic to ISIS.”

The 49ers quarterback has sat or has taken a knee while the anthem has been played in protest of what he says is the oppression of blacks and other minorities.

The Iowa Republican says in an interview with Newsmax TV that if he were Kaepernick’s coach, he would tell the player that “until you take a knee and beg forgiveness from the American people, you’re not going to set a foot on this field again.”

The congressman says Kaepernick is taking advantage of his position as an NFL quarterback and “undermining patriotism” in the process.
