‘Large seizure’ of stolen property recovered by West Kelowna police
WEST KELOWNA – A recent bust in West Kelowna has local police making a second effort to reunite hundreds of stolen items with their owners.
Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says men’s and women’s jewellery, sunglasses, watches and more were recovered Dec. 7 when West Kelowna RCMP raided a local residence.
He calls it a “large seizure.”
The initial call by RCMP to reunite people with stolen property went out on Dec. 15.
“According to Mounties in West Kelowna, approximately 20 percent of the total property seized by police, as suspected stolen property, has been re-united with its rightful owner,” he says. "At least a dozen individuals have been reunited with their recovered personal property, over the past two weeks, after they attended the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment.”
Nearly half a dozen people were unable to find their lost property.
Police want residents of West Kelowna and Peachland, who have previously been the victim of a break and enter, to contact Const. Richard Schuhmacher or the front counter staff at the West Kelowna Detachment at 250-768-2880.
“Our investigators will continue to hold onto the remaining unclaimed property and facilitate a viewing with those victims who come forward to police until the middle of Jan. 15, 2018 when the exhibits will be disposed of accordingly,” O’Donaghey says.
