Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,361.26 down 94.07 points):

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down 54 cents, or 10.23 per cent, at $4.74 on 26.45 million shares. The plane and train equipment maker’s third-quarter results missed analyst estimates and raised questions about its aerospace sales. Adjusted net income totalled $165 million in the July-September period, or nine cents per share — one cent below estimates. Revenue fell slightly to $4.1 billion from $4.2 billion.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Down $1.27, or 5.89 per cent, at $20.28 on 5.96 million shares. The mining giant is suspending its construction at its troubled Pascua-Lama project to rein in costs as prices for gold slide. Third-quarter earnings dropped substantially to US$172 million or 17 cents per share from $649 million or 65 cents per share in the same year-earlier period. Revenue slipped 12 per cent to $2.99 billion. Barrick also announced it will raise about $3 billion to repay debt.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down 30 cents, or 5.36 per cent, at $5.30 on 4.73 million shares. The gold sector led the losers on the main index, sliding 4.30 per cent at 179.94 points as the price of the bullion fell US$25.60 to $1,323.70 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Goldcorp (TSX:G). Miner. Down $1.07, or 3.87 per cent, at $26.56 on 4.34 million shares.

Pengrowth Energy Corp. (TSX:PGF). Oil and gas. Up 13 cents, or 1.98 per cent, at $6.70 on 3.81 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (958.86 down 5.31 points):

Red Pine Exploration Inc. (TSXV:RPX). Miner. Up half a cent, or 11.11 per cent, at five cents on 8.71 million shares.

WesternZagros Resources Ltd. (TSXV:WZR). Oil and gas. Up three cents, or 3.37 per cent, at 92 cents on 5.92 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB). Pipeline giant. Up 36 cents, or 0.80 per cent, at $45.20 on 1.50 million shares. The company announced Wednesday it plans to build a $1.6-billion pipeline to bring crude from Fort Hills and other Suncor oilsands projects to its hub in Hardisty, Alta.

Imperial Oil Ltd. (TSX:IMO). Oil and gas. Down 42 cents, or 0.91 per cent, at $45.53 on 597,877 shares. The Calgary-based company’s third-quarter results were well below analyst estimates. Imperial posted a $647 million profit, or 76 cents per share, which is below the 98-cent estimate. The profit is lower compared with $1.04 billion or $1.22 per share in the same period last year.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Down 10 cents, or 0.26 per cent, at $37.89 on 3.67 million shares. The company said Wednesday after the close that it will go ahead with its $13.5 billion-dollar Fort Hills oilsands project.
