Two killed by train after a person falls on tracks in Alberta town

WETASKIWIN, Alta. – Two people are dead after they were hit by a train in a small town south of Edmonton.

RCMP say one person fell on the tracks in downtown Wetaskiwin, and the other person was trying to help, when the southbound freight train hit them.

Police say the rail warning lights, bells and barricades were working at the time.

Officers did not identify the two who were killed, but Canadian Pacific Railway said it was an elderly couple.

It wasn’t the only accident at a railroad crossing on the Prairies.

Two people were injured, including one seriously, after a train hit a truck just outside of Midale, Sask., at an uncontrolled intersection.
