Israeli PM visits Azerbaijan, hails close ties
BAKU, Azerbaijan – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is hailing close ties with Azerbaijan on a visit to the ex-Soviet Caspian Sea nation.
Following Netanyahu’s talks Tuesday with Azerbaijan’s president, Ilham Aliyev, officials signed agreements on taxes and other issues. Netanyahu said Israel is willing to expand trade and co-operation on information technologies.
Aliyev has firmly allied the Shia Muslim nation with the West, helping secure its energy and security interests in the strategic Caspian region.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Jewish community in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, Netanyahu said that ties between the two nations are “very close” and “will be even better after this visit.”
Before this trip that will also take him to Kazakhstan, Netanyahu underlined his intention to strengthen diplomatic, security and economic relations with both nations.
