Woman found by husband down embankment in North Okanagan dies of complications

VERNON – A Vernon woman passed away mere weeks after her husband miraculously found her stuck on an embankment after a car crash.

Caroline Koenig’s husband Trevor followed his intuition to find her on Dec. 4 and into the morning of Dec. 5 after she didn’t return home that day. Somehow, he managed to locate her on a remote part of Highway 6 near Cherryville, suffering hypothermia and a broken arm. She was rushed to hospital and expected to make a full recovery.

Sadly, Caroline passed away on Dec. 22 as a result of complications from the accident, Trevor posted on the Blenz Vernon Facebook page. The couple operate the Blenz on Anderson Way.

“I am posting this for our friends and customers,” the post says. “On Dec. 22, my partner in life and business for the last 36 years, unexpectedly passed away as a result of complications relating to her recent motor vehicle accident.We will be celebrating the life of Caroline Koenig on Jan. 20 at the Pleasant Valley Funeral home. The service with begin at 11 a.m. Caroline was a warm, caring and loving lady and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her! I waited to post this until after the holiday season as Caroline would have wanted it that way.”

The post is quickly amassing numerous comments and condolences for Caroline, who was well known by customers and the community.
