Rescue group reports injuries after six ice climbers were hit by avalanche

KANANASKIS, Alta. – Six ice climbers were caught in an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains west of Calgary.

Kananaskis Country Public Safety, a rescue organization that works with the Alberta government, says on its Facebook page that one climber was completely buried in Saturday morning’s slide.

It says the others were partially buried.

The post says a few of the climbers suffered unspecified injuries and were taken away by ambulance.

It says that none of the climbers were wearing avalanche transceivers or were carrying shovels or probes.

The Kananaskis area has been under a snowfall warning for the weekend, which was extended late Saturday morning.
