LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Visitors have raised glasses to toast the opening of Louisville’s newest distillery. Louisville’s tourism officials are celebrating as well, as the Angel’s Envy distillery adds another attraction for a city riding a wave of bourbon-inspired tourism.
The distillery is the latest sign whiskey production is making a comeback in a city where bourbon distilling dates back to the late 1700s. The momentum is expected to accelerate, with more distilleries under construction or in planning stages, including along the old Whiskey Row corridor.
Angel’s Envy is a super-premium brand owned by Bacardi. The brand’s co-founder, Wes Henderson, said Wednesday the distillery’s downtown location will help build brand recognition by attracting tourists.
Tourism officials predict the city will have about a dozen distilleries for tourists to visit within a couple of years.
