Benevides in no hurry to name Lions’ starting QB for West Division semifinal

VANCOUVER – B.C. Lions head coach Mike Benevides is in no rush to name his starting quarterback for the CFL West Division semifinal against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Lions No. 1 quarterback Travis Lulay returned to action briefly in last week’s meaningless regular-season finale against the Stampeders, finishing 3-of-4 passing for 54 yards and a rushing touchdown in B.C.’s 26-7 victory.

Lulay had missed the previous six weeks with an injury to his throwing shoulder suffered in a win over the Montreal Alouettes on Sept. 15.

Buck Pierce started the Calgary game after rallying the Lions to a victory over the Edmonton Eskimos the previous week with three touchdowns through the air and another on the ground.

Benevides said after practice on Tuesday that he will see how Lulay progresses through the week before deciding on his starter for Sunday’s game in Regina.
