Drunk driver hits parked Kelowna cop car

A woman behind the wheel of an SUV in Kelowna last weekend hit a cop car when she tried to avoid police.

Officers were assisting paramedics at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue when one of the officers saw a nearby white SUV back into a parked police vehicle, according to an RCMP media release.

The officers suspected the 52-year-old woman driving the SUV had been drinking and demanded she take breathalyzer test which she refused to do.

She was handed a $500 fine, given a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30-days, RCMP said.

Police said it was one of five impaired driving incidents over the past weekend in Kelowna.
