Kelowna Legion not surprised by attack in Ottawa
KELOWNA – Past president of the Kelowna Legion Ron LeRoy says he actually wasn’t all that surprised when he found out a gunman had shot and killed one soldier and injured two more.
“I just wondered when (it would happen),” he says. “We’re not a small country anymore and we’re in there now with the big guys so that’s what happens. It’s terrible.”
When LeRoy first heard ISIS was encouraging attacks against members of the coalition a few weeks ago he thought it was just a matter of time before the threat was carried out in some form.
“They’re everywhere and they don’t like what we’re doing,” he says. “The writing has been on the wall for a while now so I’ve been expecting it.”
LeRoy was asleep when news of the shooting broke, but he says members of the Legion have been gathered around the TV all morning watching the news unfold as police assess the threat.
The Kelowna Dragoons armoury is padlocked on both entrances.
