Police watchdog in B.C. probes officer-involved shooting in Surrey

SURREY, B.C. – British Columbia’s police watchdog has confirmed that it has been called to the scene of a reported shooting in Surrey, B.C.

The incident took place in a strip mall and near a convenience store in the community of Guildford.

Local media are reporting a member of B.C.’s anti-gang squad, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, was involved, and a man has been taken to hospital, although there’s no word on his condition.

Those same reports also suggest 20 police cars, as well as fire department and ambulance crews, attended the scene.

The Independent Investigations Office is mandated to probe police-related incidents of death or serious harm. (CKNW, News1130, The Canadian Press)
