Video evidence leads to arrest of downtown Kelowna arson suspect
KELOWNA – RCMP say a third party's high quality video surveillance footage helped them identify and arrest a women they say set a fire in downtown Kelowna this week.
The 26-year-old woman, who police say is without a fixed address, was filmed setting the fire shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 11, at the back of a building on the 400 block of Leon Avenue.
“Late Thursday, RCMP investigators were provided with video surveillance footage which appeared to show the alleged arson incident in its entirety,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release.
“Upon reviewing the footage, police were able to positively identify the suspect as a woman known to them.”
The suspect is now in police custody and she is expected to appear in court today, Jan. 12.
