TORONTO – James van Riemsdyk scored on a low wrist shot in the shootout to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Cory Schneider stopped Toronto’s Mason Raymond and Phil Kessel before van Riemsdyk’s goal. Adam Henrique then fired wide for the Devils.

Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier bested Michael Ryder and Travis Zajac had Bernier beat but hit the post.

Schneider made a great save on Kessel during a Leafs 3-on-1 in overtime to help force the shootout.

Kessel scored on the power play at 8:12 of the third period to open the scoring.

Ryder tied it on his own power-play score with 4:45 remaining in regulation.

JETS 5, PREDATORS 0

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Ondrej Pavelec made 41 saves and Bryan Little scored twice as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Nashville Predators 5-0 on Friday night.

Olli Jokinen, Eric Tangradi and Devin Setoguchi also scored for Winnipeg. Andrew Ladd, playing in his 550th NHL game, and Blake Wheeler each had two assists and Jokinen had one.

Little, Jokinen and Tangradi each scored in the first 8:23 of the game, and Setoguchi made it 4-0 with 3:15 remaining in the first period. It was the most goals the Jets have scored in a period since March 1, 2012, when they had five against Florida.

Tangradi’s goal sent goalie Carter Hutton to the bench after he stopped just five of the eight shots he faced over nearly 8 1/2 minutes. Marek Mazanec, making his NHL debut after being called up from Milwaukee of the AHL on Nov. 5, turned aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

AVALANCHE 4, FLAMES 2

DENVER (AP) — Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 30 shots, Ryan O’Reilly and Paul Stastny had goals to lead Colorado.

John Mitchell and Matt Duchene also scored for the Avalanche.

The Avalanche joined the 1995 Quebec Nordiques for the best 15-game start in franchise history. Colorado (13-2) needed 29 games to earn 26 points in last year’s lockout shortened season.

Mike Cammalleri had two goals and Mikael Backlund had two assists for Calgary, which has dropped seven of nine. Goalie Karri Ramo made 23 saves for the Flames.
