The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is promoting from within.
Glenn Borthistle, the current director of instruction (human resources), will be taking over as superintendent when Dave Witt retires this summer.
“It was a tough process. The candidates were very qualified and brought a lot of experience and good ideas to the table. In the end, after a lot of discussion, we felt Glenn was the best fit for our district,” board chair Bobbi Johnson says.
“After knowing Glenn for so long, and knowing all the good things he has done for the district, we know that Glenn always has the best interest of our students at heart. We’re confident Glenn will carry our district smoothly forward.”
Johnson explains the district received a good number of applications and they were shortlisted to three. On Tuesday the three applicants were interviewed by stakeholder groups. On Wednesday the candidates were interviewed by trustees. The stakeholders thoughts were then brought forward to the board who took them into consideration in their final determinations on Wednesday evening.
With the promotion of Borthistle, the district will now begin a search for a new central staff member, whom they hope to have in place by August. Borthistle will move to the new position Aug. 1, 2013.
