Ceremonial flags stolen from Vancouver-area Legion days before Remembrance Day

RICHMOND, B.C. – A Royal Canadian Legion branch near Vancouver says 10 of its ceremonial flags have been stolen just days before Remembrance Day.

William Spencer, president of a legion branch in Richmond, south of Vancouver, says the flags were put into storage a week ago after they were used at a B.C. Lions game.

They were discovered and reported missing on Friday when a member of the legion went to fetch them for Remembrance Day rehearsals.

Spencer says among the stolen flags were the legion flag and the women’s ladies’ auxiliary flags, which he says are irreplaceable.

Kim Skiffington, who’s been tending the bar at the legion for 12 years, says it’s upsetting the legion members won’t have a flag to carry in Monday’s Remembrance Day.

The Legion called RCMP, but investigators have been unable to identify suspects, despite checking for fingerprints.
