Man United roars back into Premier League title race by beating Arsenal; Man City, Spurs lose

MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United roared back into the Premier League title race on Sunday by beating leader Arsenal 1-0, completing a perfect day for the reigning champions after earlier defeats for top-four contenders Manchester City and Tottenham.

Robin van Persie headed home United’s winner in the 27th minute against his former club, lifting his team to fifth and within five points of Arsenal after 11 games of an unpredictable campaign. Arsenal’s lead to second-place Liverpool was cut to two points.

City’s poor away form continued with a 1-0 loss at Sunderland, with Phil Bardsley grabbing the winner in the 21st minute, and Tottenham was sunk by Newcastle by the same scoreline after Loic Remy’s early strike.

Stoke scored a penalty deep into injury time to draw 3-3 at Swansea.
