Las Vegas tourism director announces retirement plans
LAS VEGAS – The CEO of the publicly funded agency responsible for promoting Las Vegas has announced that he is preparing to retire.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Rossi Ralenkotter told the authority board on Tuesday that he’s talked with board members about putting together a financial retirement package.
He did not specify when he would officially step down.
Ralenkotter has led the agency since 2004.
His retirement announcement comes after a year of battling cancer and criticism for the agency’s misspending.
A report released Friday showed that auditors could not account for more than $50,000 in Southwest Airlines gift cards bought by the agency. The report says Ralenkotter and his wife had used more than $16,000 in gift cards for personal travel.
Ralenkotter has apologized and paid back the money.
