Duplex in West Kelowna destroyed by fire

A fire at a duplex in West Kelowna was heavily damaged by fire early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the homes on Last Road in West Kelowna at around 2:31 a.m. June 12, and when they arrived they found the duplex was “fully involved in fire,” according to a West Kelowna Fire Rescue media release.

The people living in the duplex made it out safely. Due to the fire danger, a neighbouring apartment building was evacuated.

No one was hurt.

Once the fire was put out, and smoke cleared from the apartment building, those residents were allowed to return home, fire rescue said.

The duplex residents are in the care of emergency support services.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The fire department said crews continue to work at the scene and say traffic may be impacted on Last Road and Brown Road and ask drivers to avoid the area. Power may also be out in the vicinity to allow crews to work safely.
