Kamloops RCMP still seeking information after suspected hit and run on Coquihalla

KAMLOOPS – Police are asking anyone with information on a potential hit and run with a pedestrian on the Coquihalla earlier this month to come forward.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police want to speak to anyone who thinks they may have hit an animal or damaged their vehicle after driving in the area of southbound Highway 5 near the Highway 1 junction.

The scene of the collision was southwest of Kamloops, near the interchange for Highway 1 toward Cache Creek and the Coquihalla.

A 21-year-old man's body was found on the highway at approximately 9 p.m. on Jan. 7. Police said at the time it appeared the man had been struck by a vehicle, which did not remain at the scene.

RCMP also said the driver may not have known they hit something because it was night time, the man was in all black clothing, and there was no lighting in the area.

Police say the man was not a Kamloops resident, but no information about his identity has been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
