CALGARY – Veteran defenceman Tessa Bonhomme has been released from Canada’s women’s hockey team as the roster for the Sochi Olympics begins to take shape.
Bonhomme was a member of the 2010 Olympic team that defeated the United States for the gold medal.
She also appeared in four world championships, helping Canada to two gold and two silver medals over that span.
Defenceman Brigette Lacquette and forward Jenelle Kohanchuk — who scored twice in Canada’s 6-3 win over Finland in the final of the Four Nations Cup on Saturday — were also released from Canada’s centralization roster.
The squad now includes three goaltenders, seven defencemen and 14 forwards.
Canada will need to cut three more players before finalizing its roster for the Sochi Games.
The women’s team will play games against men’s midget teams and international opponents over the coming months.
