Mexican folk symphonic metal band coming to Kelowna

KELOWNA – Their unique music mixes folk, opera, symphony and heavy metal and they're coming to Kelowna next month.

CABRAKAÄN is a Mayan god of mountains and earthquakes but it's also a band originally from Mexico now based out of Calgary. A media release from publicist Jon Asher says their music "combines elements of heavy metal, orchestrated with Mexican folklore and uses a wide variety of instruments."

Their lyrics are in English, Spanish, Zapoteco, Nahuatl and other ancient Mexican languages.

"We are proud our roots and our culture and we want to share it with the world through our music,” drummer Marko Cipaktli says. “When we are on stage, we try to give our fans a great experience by creating an atmosphere from the time of the Aztecs, using costumes and make up.”

Their debut album ‘Songs from Anahuac’ was released in 2014 and they've recently begun a tour of three Canadian provinces. They will be making a stop at Muninn's Post in Kelowna Feb. 15, 2018.

Their new album "Cem Anahuac" is due out this spring.

Also performing are Odinfist, Valfreya and Forsaken Rite.

Tickets are $15 and available at the door.
