UBC Okanagan professor reprimanded for sexual harassment

KELOWNA – A Kelowna university professor has been put under regulatory supervision for sexual harassment.

The College of Psychologists of British Columbia says UBC Okanagan psychology professor Dr. Stephen Porter consented to a reprimand in late December.

The college says Porter will be placed under regulatory supervision for 18 months, with boundary issues, power differentials, and sexual harassment listed as reasons.

It also says he will provide letters of apology to the complainants and is not to supervise students, researchers or volunteers “until the supervisor confirms his readiness.”

“And then only under their supervision,” the release says.

Porter is a Professor of Psychology specializing in deception detection, forensic investigations and criminal law, according to the UBC Okanagan website.

Porter agreed to stop teaching for the time being, according to a Global Okanagan report.
