Looking for a forever home; Kamloops SPCA pet of the week

KAMLOOPS – Tod is a big tomcat who came to the Kamloops SPCA as a stray and no owner has come forward to claim him.

Tod is a shy guy who doesn't like a lot of noise and action, but loves his cheek scratches, animal care attendant Lyndsay Stewart says. With a gentle and patient guardian he'll certainly come out of his shell and become a loving companion.

He enjoys the simple things in life, comfy spots to nap and his food, Stewart says. If he can eat without having to get up he will take full advantage of it, lazy boy. We're not sure how Tod will do with other animals. Testing and slow introductions would be important to see.

Due to his life on the street and getting in fights with other tomcats, Tod has feline immunodeficiency virus which is transmitted by bites. She says the virus attacks the cat's immune system and means Tod may not be able to fight off various infections. Many cats with this virus can still have a full life, but to prevent infections, they do better as indoor cats.

Regular yearly vet checks will be important to keep Tod as healthy as possible.

Stewart says he would probably prefer a quieter home without young children and is sure with a gentle and patient guardian he'll come out of his shell and be a loving companion.

For more information about Tod contact the staff at the Penticton SPCA. His animal ID number is 448746.

Visit the shelter's webpage for more information such as location, adoption fees and hours of operation.
