CIS Roundup: Ravens blow 24-point lead before holding on to beat Mustangs 38-31

OTTAWA – The Carleton University Ravens blew a 24-point lead before going on to defeat the University of Western Mustangs 38-31 on Sunday in CIS football action for their first win of the season.

Carleton (1-1) looked to be in full control of the game with a 24-0 lead midway through the second quarter. But Western (1-1) scored the next 31 points and was up a touchdown until 5:43 of the fourth quarter when Ravens quarterback Jesse Mills hit Nathaniel Behar for a 15-yard touchdown to tie the game.

Less than three minutes later, Mills hit Wilson Birch from 12 yards out to put Carleton back ahead for good.

Mills finished 28-of-35 passing for 341 yards and two touchdowns.

Ravens running back Jayde Rowe had a solid outing, including a 74-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He finished the game with 161 yards on the ground off 16 carries and two touchdowns.

Mustangs quarterback Stevenson Bone was 16-of-25 passing for 141 yards and a touchdown while running back Alex Taylor had 18 carries for a 147 yards and two touchdowns.

Tunde Adeleke had an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown to put Carleton on the board first, less than three minutes after opening kick off.

Western took 14 penalties that cost it 106 yards, compared to nine penalties totalling 65 yards for the Ravens.
