Vernon RCMP lock down high school for nearby incident

A police incident in Coldstream forced RCMP to lock down the local high school this afternoon.

Kalamalka Secondary vice-principal Colin Mayer sent a notice to parents and guardians notifying them of hold and secure.

RCMP told the school to implement the hold and secure at around 1:25 p.m. today, June 21. The notice said the procedure is used when there’s cause for concern in the community.

At approximately 2:32 p.m. RCMP told the school the situation was under control and the hold and secure could be lifted. Students continued with the normal routine.

Mayer said in the notice that student safety is their first priority.

Vernon RCMP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
