September in Vernon warmer than normal

VERNON – September in Vernon brought hot weather records, fierce thunderstorms, and power outages.

The average temperature throughout September was 22.6 C, a good deal higher than the normal average of 14.3 C. For several days mid-month, the mercury rose well above the average. September 12-15 boasted record-breaking values of up to 30.9 C.

The hottest day of the month, September 2, was 32.1 C—not quite as hot as the record for the month, 32.9 C in 1988. The chilliest day was September 25, when it got down to 1.3 C.

The warm weather began to plummet around the 19th, when warm rays were exchanged for fog and clouds.

A total of 56.8 mm of rain fell over the month, with the wettest days being September 6 and 28, which together accounted for about 40 per cent of the month’s precipitation.
