
Man hit by train in Chase escapes with minor injuries
CHASE – A 57-year-old man with mobility challenges was struck by a train in Chase yesterday afternoon.
RCMP say at approximately 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, officers were called to a report of a pedestrian hit by a train at the rail crossing on Pine Street in Chase.
The man, who police say has mobility challenges, had been walking on the sidewalk adjacent to Pine Street and began to cross the CP railway tracks when he was struck by a westbound train. The man had not fully crossed the tracks.
The man was transported to Shuswap Lake General Hospital where he was treated for non life-threating injuries, according to an RCMP media release.
“Immediately after the collision and before the arrival of emergency personnel a motorist drove through the lighted barricades at the crossing causing minor damage,” Cpl. Scott Linklater says in the release.
Anyone with information regarding this motorist is asked to call the CP Police Service at 1-800-716-9132 or the Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221.
