UPDATE: Minor injuries in Highway 97 semi crash near Vernon

VERNON – A single vehicle collision involving a semi truck on Highway 97 south of Vernon shut down the route in both directions for over four hours today.

RCMP say in a media release the crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. today, Feb. 2, on Highway 97 just north of Bailey Road. At 2:25 p.m. Drive B.C. reported the highway had reopened in both directions.

The truck driver and passenger, both from the Lower Mainland, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the nearest medical facility for treatment, according to an RCMP media release.

No word yet on the cause of the crash.

“Motorists on the road are fortunate that this incident was a minor one, although it caused long traffic delays," Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. "The outcome could have been a lot more severe.”
