PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A snorkeler swimming off Florida’s Atlantic coast found a college ring that had been missing for more than two decades and returned it to its owner.
Amateur treasure hunter Stephen Zabrauskas found the 1995 Florida State University ring earlier this month while snorkeling off Hutchison Island, Florida.
The ring had the name of Elizabeth Engel engraved on it.
A friend heard about the snorkeling discover and contacted the ring’s owner, now known as Elizabeth Engel-Petric.
Treasure Coast Newspapers reports that Petric was a former member of FSU’s swim team and the ring was given to her by her coach.
On Friday, Petric, Zabrauskas, and their families met at a doughnut shop in Port St. Lucie where the snorkeler gave the ring to its owner.
