Officials: Roads are going to be busy this weekend in Maine

Transportation officials are expecting a record number of cars and trucks to travel in the state this holiday weekend.

Peter Mills, executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority, is projecting traffic volume to be higher than a year ago.

In 2017, turnpike toll transactions totalled less than 1.06 million over the Labor Day weekend, only a 0.5 per cent increase from the year before. The Portland Press Herald reports that turnpike officials are expecting a number closer to 1.2 million transactions.

Pat Moody from AAA Northern New England said the Fourth of July holiday was a record for traffic. He said he expects the same thing for Labor Day weekend.
