Man who practised dentistry without a licence to appear in B.C. courtroom

VANCOUVER – The B.C. man who defied promises not to practice dentistry in British Columbia without a licence is now back in the province after fleeing to Ontario several months ago.

Authorities returned Tung Sheng Wu to Metro Vancouver from Toronto late Thursday afternoon.

The 62-year-old is expected to appear before a B.C. Supreme Court judge this morning.

While on the run, Wu was convicted of contempt of court and sentenced to six months in jail.

It’s estimated that he treated as many as 450 patients in unsanitary conditions in the bedroom of a Burnaby home.

Those actions prompted a warning from the B.C. College of Dental Surgeons to anyone who received treatment, urging them to be checked for diseases ranging from hepatitis B and C to HIV.
