Stay classy Winnipeg: Ron Burgundy to help cover curling competition

TORONTO – Curling will be extra classy on TSN this weekend.

The broadcaster says it’s turning to fictional newsman Ron Burgundy to help cover the “Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings” on Sunday.

TSN says actor Will Ferrell, who plays the legendary newsman known for the catchphrase “Stay classy,” will call live game action in Winnipeg alongside TSN broadcaster Vic Rauter.

The “Roar of the Rings” determines which team will represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The finals take place Dec. 7 and 8.

Ferrell returns to the big screen as Burgundy in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” on Dec. 20.

In a release, he tells the Prairie city: “Winnipeg, get ready to paint the town Burgundy!”

“Marked by the gods of broadcasting and placed into this shimmering green sphere like a golden egg in hay, chosen like an unclean jackal by Noah himself, I accept your hallowed task and sing out with a battle cry worthy of your love and your wisdom,” Burgundy said in a release.

“Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” follows San Diego’s top rated newsman as he returns to the news desk alongside his co-anchor and wife Veronica Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate; weather man Brick Tamland, played by Steve Carell and reporter Brian Fantana, played by Paul Rudd.
