Loveable cat needs financial help to deal with painful medical condition: Penticton SPCA

PENTICTON – A well-behaved feline is in need of financial donations to ease a painful medical condition.

B.C. SPCA South Okanagan-Similkameen branch manager Carolyn Hawkins says Sugar Plum is a sweet senior cat who came into the shelter as a stray.

Sugar Plum has entropion of her eyelids, a condition in which her eyelids turn the wrong way and her eyelashes scrape against her eyeballs every time she moves her eyes.

“This condition is constantly painful for this poor girl, who has suffered with this issue for many years, if not her whole life. She’s such a gentle and loving cat. Even at 11 years old, she’s still in great health and has a lot of love to give yet,” Hawkins says.

Sugar Plum’s medical costs are expected to exceed $1,500, and as a non-profit organization, the SPCA relies heavily on public donations to help care for the province’s most vulnerable animals.

“Even with the pain her condition causes, Sugar Plum is as sweet as her name. She’s a lap cat and wants nothing more than to enjoy the rest of her nine lives pain free and cuddled up with her new family,” Hawkins says.

Anyone wishing to help Sugar Plum is asked to donate online here.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
