Police search for prohibition-era propeller, pilfered for the second time

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – Police in West Vancouver are repeating themselves over the theft of a prohibition-era propeller, pinched from the yard of a local resident.

This is the second time the 136-kilogram brass propeller has been taken from the residence.

In August 2011, the prop was removed and later found at a metal recycler.

The alert to this latest theft came on Friday, when the homeowner called police to report it had disappeared again.

Police say the propeller was removed from a rum-runner boat once used by Al Capone during the U.S. prohibition on alcohol in the 1920s.

A 55-year-old man was convicted in the first theft on a charge of possession of stolen property.
