Tech savvy jobs can disappear but jobs for sales and managing money remain

MONTREAL – A new study says jobs for tech savvy social media experts will be as obsolete in 10 years as some other more traditional occupations such as taxi dispatcher and toll booth operator.

The study, by online employment site Workopolis, found that in their own ways social media experts will become a much a victim of advancing technology as many of those other jobs.

Workopolis says that most young people are already immersed in platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and will enter the job market already familiar with social media, meaning there will be no need for jobs differentiated by those skills.

Meanwhile, the study predicts that taxi dispatchers will increasingly see their work taken over by mobile apps that allow customers to hail cabs from their smartphones.

And toll booth operators face the prospect of being replaced by booths that can give out exact change, joining the ranks retail cashiers being put out of work by self-serve checkouts.
