Jail time for pair of North Okanagan men involved in robbery

VERNON – A pair of men who assisted in a robbery at an Armstrong business last Valentine’s Day will have time to think about the crime in jail.

Matthew Roy, born in 1990, and Daine Steven Vollmin, born in 1992, were involved in a robbery the Armstrong 7-Eleven on Feb. 14, 2017 along with a third person, Angelina Donatucci-Urlacher, born in 1990.

The trio fled with cash and merchandise, but didn’t get far. Police stopped them in a getaway vehicle shortly after, according to the RCMP.

Roy and Vollmin appeared in Vernon Provincial Court on Monday, Feb. 5 and received significant jail time for the crime, which left two female workers shaken, but unhurt. Police said at the time a knife was pulled during the incident. Roy and Vollmin pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the robbery.

Vollmin was sentenced to 13 months in jail, minus time already served, while Roy earned 18 months, less the time he has already served in custody. Both must also serve a one-year probation and pay $600 each in victim surcharge fees. They are also banned from having firearms for ten years.

Donatucci-Urlacher was sentenced separately to roughly 16 months in jail last summer. She also faces a 10-year firearms prohibition and is subject to three years probation.
