Canadian PM Trudeau to host Obama, Pena Nieto in June
WASHINGTON – The White House says President Barack Obama will take a daytrip to Ottawa next month to meet with his Canadian and Mexican counterparts.
The North American Leaders’ Summit — sometimes dubbed the “Three Amigos” summit — is scheduled for June 29. The White House says Obama will meet with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss security and economic issues during the visit. He’ll also address a joint session of the Parliament of Canada.
The leaders of the three countries last met in Mexico in 2014. Former Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper delayed the 2015 summit amid tension with the Obama administration over the construction of TransCanada Corp’s Keystone XL pipeline.
Trudeau announced the visit Wednesday via Twitter along with the hashtag “#goodneighbours.”
