Penticton RCMP call for return of stolen burial urn, no questions asked
PENTICTON – A son is hoping someone returns an urn containing his father's ashes stolen from a vehicle in Penticton earlier this month.
Penticton RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Dafoe St. in the city on Sunday, Feb. 4.
Several items were taken from the 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck including prescription sunglasses, baseball caps and a burial urn.
The urn is square and beige with the inscription “DAD 1938-2012.” There is an image of a human figure with birds flying away.
The owner of the truck — and son of the deceased — told police he travels for most of the year for work and is always accompanied by his father’s remains. His father was a world traveller. He cherishes his father’s memory and the continued bond together while on the road.
“We are appealing to the suspect or anyone who may know of the burial urn’s whereabouts on a no-questions-asked basis. Anyone should be able to understand the grief caused by this additional loss,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk in the release says.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the burial urn or who would be in a position to assist with its return, is urged to contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
