B.C. man who attacked two men with chainsaw nets two-year sentence

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A mentally ill Kamloops, B.C., man who admitted to chasing people with a chainsaw has been sentenced to two years in jail.

Twenty-five-year-old Wyatt Proulx (prew) pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. A charge of attempted murder against him was dropped.

The court heard that Proulx was at his uncle’s home playing cards with two other people when an argument broke out.

Proulx used a chainsaw to cut through a chair held up in defence by one of the victims.

Prosecutor Frank Caputo says the judge is expected to recommend that Proulx serve his time at the Regional Treatement Centre in Abbotsford, B.C., where there are programs for treatment of mentally ill offenders.

Proulx has also been sentenced to three years probation once he’s finished his sentence. (CHNL)
