Art Gallery of Ontario appoints curator focused on Inuit art

TORONTO – The Art Gallery of Ontario has appointed an associate curator of Indigenous art with a focus on Inuit exhibitions and acquisitions.

The AGO says Taqralik Partridge has been named to the newly created role, which will expand the gallery’s Department of Indigenous Art.

The department was launched in 2017 in an effort to champion contemporary Indigenous artists, including First Nations, Inuit and Metis creators, from Canada and around the world.

Partridge previously worked with the AGO as a co-curator and contributor to the 2018 exhibition “Tunirrusiangit: Kenojuak Ashevak and Tim Pitsiulak.”

She comes to the AGO from Galerie SAW Gallery in Ottawa, where she was director of Nordic Lab and co-lead of the Inuit Futures in Arts Leadership project.

Next year, AGO will present solo exhibitions by Inuit artists Bill Nasogaluak, Ningiukulu Teevee and David Ruben Piqtoukun.
