Disabled track equipment causes major travel delays

NEWARK, N.J. – Regular service has resumed in the north tube of the Hudson River rail tunnel after some disabled Amtrak rail maintenance equipment was removed.

Officials say the disabled equipment didn’t cause any damage to the rail. But it did cause lengthy delays during the Friday morning commute.

All Amtrak and commuter trains travelling through New York’s Penn Station were experiencing delays ranging from 45 minutes to an hour, as all trains were single tracking using the south tube.

New Jersey Transit trains were experiencing 30-minute delays in and out of Penn Station.

NJ Transit rail tickets were being cross-honoured by the agency’s buses, along with PATH and private carrier buses.

The Long Island Railroad was also running with some short delays during the morning commute, but has since returned to n or close to schedule.
