SAO PAULO – Brazilian law enforcement officials say a lone gunman has opened fire against supporters of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The Public Security Department of the southern state of Parana says two people were wounded in the shooting early Saturday morning at a camp set up by people protesting da Silva’s imprisonment.
Supporters have been camped near the ex-president’s jail cell since he began serving a 12-year sentence for money laundering and corruption at the beginning of April.
The camp is 800 yards (732 metres) from federal police headquarters in the state capital of Curitiba.
