Men’s playoffs set at Canadian curling trials; Martin, Morris through

WINNIPEG – Kevin Martin and John Morris won’t have to wait long to renew acquaintances.

The former teammates will meet in tomorrow’s men’s semifinal as round-robin action wrapped up at the Canadian Olympic curling trials.

Martin defeated Morris 7-6 in an extra end to clinch second in the men’s standings.

But Morris also advanced after Kevin Koe beat Mike McEwen 5-4, guaranteeing Morris a third-place finish.

The winner of tomorrow’s semifinal will meet Brad Jacobs in Sunday’s final with an Olympic berth on the line.

In women’s action, Chelsea Carey faces Sherry Middaugh in a tiebreaker, with the winner taking on Rachel Homan in tonight’s semifinal.
