Morris beats former skip Martin to earn spot in Olympic Trials final
WINNIPEG – Some key misses Saturday by Kevin Martin handed his former third John Morris a ticket to the final to see which men’s curling team will represent Canada at the Olympics.
Martin lost 7-5 after leading 3-1 midway by letting Morris score a deuce in six and another in eight, then losing the hammer in nine when he failed to blank on an open hit.
Morris and Brad Jacobs will square off in the men’s final Sunday at the trials in Winnipeg while Jennifer Jones and Sherry Middaugh play Saturday evening in the women’s final
Martin, with Dave Nedohin replacing Morris at third, was shooting for a chance to play in his fourth Olympics.
He medalled in two, winning gold in 2010.
Morris took over Jim Cotter’s B.C. rink to shoot for an Olympic berth, with Cotter moving to third although he still throws fourth rocks.
