Deputies cleared in shooting of Nashville firefighter

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. – Three Tennessee deputies have been cleared in a shooting that injured a firefighter in January.

Media outlets reported Wednesday that a Cheatham County grand jury determined the deputies acted with justifiable force when they shot off-duty Metro Nashville firefighter Charles Holland.

The shooting happened Jan. 30, when the deputies were responding to calls of someone trying to run two women off the road.

Deputies said the 44-year-old Holland was crouched behind a car in a driveway with a gun, and that he began advancing aggressively toward them. At some point during the encounter, deputies fired, hitting Holland. He was hospitalized.

His attorney says in a statement that Holland was trying to protect the women from the person who was trying to run them off the road.
